Triple BBQ Crunch Burgers

  • 4 large hamburger buns
  • 4 teaspoons butter softened or room temp
  • 1 pound ground round or ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons Penzey's BBQ 3001 Spice or some other brand BBQ Rub seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 ounces white cheddar cheese sliced
  • 4 large leaves green leaf lettuce
  • 8 thin tomato slices
  • 1/2 red onion sliced
  • 2 ounces 36 chips Barbecue potato chips (We like Lay's Kettle Cooked)
  • 4 tablespoons barbecue sauce


  • Get buns ready by buttering the inside of both the top and bottom half of each bun.
  • Mix BBQ seasoning with beef and form into four thick patties and indent the middle for even cooking. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill for 4-5 minutes on each side, add cheese when the burger is almost done and close the lid for about a minute to let it melt.
  • Toss buns onto grill for 1-2 minutes until lightly toasted.
  • Assemble burger by layering with lettuce, patty, tomato, onion, and chips. Spread barbecue sauce on the inside of the top bun. Close it up and chow down!
